The Miami Valley Fire District, Montgomery County, Ohio (population 50,000) is accepting applications for the position of Lateral or Entry Level Firefighter/Paramedic (Full-Time).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Firefighter/Paramedic shall perform the following duties pursuant to the direction of the Lieutenant or Battalion Chief:
- Firefighting activities including driving fire apparatus, operating pumps and related equipment, laying of hose lines, and performing fire combat, containment and extinguishment tasks.
- Emergency medical services including administering first aid, CPR, medication, and other life saving procedures as required.
- Perform salvage operations.
- Receive fire and emergency medical alarms.
- Operate radio and other communication equipment.
- Inspection of buildings, hydrants, and other structures in fire prevention programs.
- Participate in fire drills, attends classes in firefighting, emergency medical, hazardous material, and related subjects.
- Maintain fire equipment, apparatus, and facilities.
- Perform minor repairs.
- Perform general maintenance work in the upkeep of fire facilities and equipment; clean and wash walls and floors; care for grounds around station; make minor repairs; wash, hang, and dry hose; wash, clean, polish, maintain and test apparatus and equipment.
- Assist in developing plans for special assignments such as emergency preparedness, hazardous communications, training programs, firefighting, hazardous materials, and emergency medical activities.
- Present programs to the community on safety, medical and fire prevention topics.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in the fire station while sitting, standing or walking and at emergency sites in varying and extreme weather conditions;
- When responding to emergencies, employees risk physical hazard from fire, smoke, chemicals, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and other hazardous materials, falling debris, unstable buildings, tight spaces, height, and extreme heat;
- Administrative duties are primarily performed in an office environment that is normally temperature controlled with appropriate lighting;
Physical Requirements
- Must satisfactorily complete pre-employment examinations by a licensed healthcare provider;
- Physical exertion is required to climb ladders, pull hoses, move heavy objects, and crawl through tight spaces;
- Physical effort is required to lift materials, equipment, and persons exceeding 100 lbs;
- May be required to work at heights in excess of 100 feet;
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, except during certain firefighting or EMT activities when noise levels may be loud.
Required Minimum Qualifications (*)
- 18 years of age with Valid Drivers License
- State of Ohio Level 2 Firefighter Certification
- State of Ohio EMT Certification (State of Ohio Paramedic Certification within 18 months of hire)

*Certifications must be maintained over the course of employment as a condition of employment within this classification.
Benefits
- Base Pay Range - $62,200 to $88,612 (as of June 2024)

The Firefighter Mile (FFM) is a physical ability test for firefighters. It is designed to evaluate entry level firefighter candidates on the essential physical capabilities required to satisfactorily perform their job duties. FFM is based on decades of research in physical ability testing and extensive job analysis data collected from various fire departments.
- Firefighter Mile is administered through the National Training Network
- We also accept the CPAT test, administered by the Miami Valley Ohio Fire/EMS Alliance.
Candidates will interview with Human Resources and their designees.
The Pre-employment Aptitude Test is taken online.
Candidates will interview with the Fire Chief or their designee.
Candidates will go through a physical exam by a medical doctor.
Candidates will submit finger prints as part of a background check and verification process.
Candidates will take a polygraph test.
